Skyline Drive

We left Monica & Bob's about 9:30 and headed to the nearest Safeway for lunch provisions. Here's our farewell photo.
We made it to the Skyline Drive about 1:00 pm, and traveled the full 105-mile length of the Skyline Drive making our way to Waynesboro in about five hours, stopping along the way at the Dickey Ridge Visitor Center, where Conor had his National Parks Passport stamped, Skyland, Big Meadows Lodge, and various overlooks along the way. We encountered some deer and a hedgehog, and Clare and Conor enjoyed the scenery and the misty fog on the trip. We took a very short hike in the woods, but did not see any bear.  This was Clare and Conor's first experience with the Skyline Drive and I am sure they will want to experience it again when they are older. For the history buffs out there, the Skyline Drive was a public works project of the depression-era Civilian Conservation Corps.  I also visited the famed Massanutten Lodge, which is nestled in the woods and was part of the original mountain resort now known as Skyland. Enjoy the photos.
