Gatlinburg, gateway to the Smokies
We arrived in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, about 5:30 and checked into the Sleep Inn, a bit of an upgrade from last night's stay at the Quality Inn.
After resting a bit, we toured the streets of Gatlinburg, which is sort of like Bar Harbor, Maine, but filled with many more touristy shops, candy stores, t-shirt shops, fudge shops, ice cream shops, stores filled with kitsch, drug stores, the Guinness World Records Museum, some Ripley's attractions, and the like. The sidewalks were jammed with tourists. It was a little quaint in places, but clearly a sideshow to the main attraction, the Great Smoky Mountains. Here are some photos so you can get the idea.
