We'll be scratching four places off the list of 1,000 as we make our road trip journey to Skyline Drive, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and back.

Welcome to the 2014 McCabe Family Great Smoky Mountains Road Trip travel blog. We (Dad, Mom, Clare, and Conor) depart from Philadelphia on Friday, August 1, with our first stop in Ellicott City, Maryland, where we will visit with my sister Monica Collins and her family. We start the trip on Saturday, August 2, and return home on Saturday, August 9. A total of nine days of travel to Skyline Drive and Shenandoah National Park , the Great Smoky Mountains National Park , the Blue Ridge Parkway , the famous Biltmore Estate , then to Asheville and Greensboro, North Carolina, the International Civil Rights Center & Museum , and finally Charlottesville, Virginia, and Thomas Jefferson's Monticello .
